Networking

Networking is a key aspect of ANWS' work to unite women, men and the women's shelter movement regionally and globally to end violence against women and their children. Networking enables us to foster and support the development of international, national and regional networks and is effective at supporting the development of one strong African voice.

ANWS highly values and promotes networking opportunities for women's shelters and centres working to end violence against women. We aim to identify common barriers that survivors are facing, as well as learn about innovative and helpful approaches that other women's shelters are using to support a woman's safety. By networking with each other we can better anticipate and be responsive to women’s needs.

The African Network of Women's Shelters is committed to broadening the scope and reach of networking activities for women's shelters and centres, transitional houses, refuges, and other organizations working to end violence against women and their children.

Campaigns and Policy

The women's shelter movement plays a critical leadership role in national, regional and global efforts to end violence against women and their children. To fulfill our vision where women and girls are free from all forms of violence, ANWS will begin creating campaigns and policy initiatives to create and consolidate the women's shelter movement in Africa, advance women's leadership, and hold governments and societies responsible for ensuring women's human rights.
